The philatelic interests of members.

As with any other region or country of the world there is
a full range of philatelic items to collect or be interested in.
One thing drives much of the areas' early philately:
there was a very small usage base and as a result
there was not a lot of income from postal services.

Postage Stamps
The Bechuanalands had a forty plus year history of not having stamps produced specifically for it. It started with overprinting, then utilised Unappropriated Dies, then returned to overprints until the 1932 Baobab and Cattle issue of King George V.
Revenue Stamps
Similar to the postage stamps, overprinting and more overprinting - again until the Baobab and Cattle of 1932.
Postal Stationery
Did I mention the overprints?
Postmarks and Post Offices
Pictures of the early post offices say it all. A hut in the middle of nowhere differs from the english village post office image.
Postal Routes and Postal Rates
It is amazing how much knowledge can be lost. Much of the information comes as a result of examining the covers and seeing what charges were leavied and the post offices who stamped the cover en route.
